It should be said that what I fear most in all of creatures was insects. Actually, I wasn't afraid of them, and I remember I even liked to dismember them when I was small. Well, ignorance results in no fear, also, curiosity helps a lot. However, I would lose control to scream by even looking at their horrible looks when I grow up. Ordinarily, no matter what, I shouldn't have been supposed to create artwork with the insects as a subject. Yet my mother is not afraid of the insects. Of course, she hardly likes them as well, but unlike me, she would neither run away with screams or kill them for removing fears when she glances at the insects, as if the insects were like natural enemies of humans.
She knotted a shrimp for me as a toy when I was a little girl. The shrimp was so delicate that it was like a real one and I could hardly tear myself away from it. It's said that she could make a vivid locust with the finnest plastic wires when she was twelve years old. However, she couldn't create them any more when the life became hectic later. She didn't have time. It was fine that she wanted to put her family first, but it was really annoying that she couldn't stop talking to me how many interesting things she made before. What's worse, those of who saw her work liked to describe to me how wonderful her talents were again and again! I was the only one who hadn't seen how marvellous the locust she made so that I was eager to see it.
Long afterwards, we couldn't wait to create a group of soft-sculptures about the insects when we decided to do what we really wanted to do. I had no idea whether it was because she missed those good old days so much when she felt free to make those interesting things with threads, or because I wanted to be the first one to see them in person to compensate for the regret that I hadn't been unable to see.
When it came to what kind of insects we should do, butterflies and bees occurred to our minds at first. Because of loving flowers, we thought these elves who are flying in flowers and grass as if they were also full of sweet-smelling. I thought the butterflies and bees were the insects which are lovely most. I even forgot that I was afraid of the insects.
Interestingly, it seemed that I didn't as fear the insects as before when I was creating these artworks with my mother. Instead, I even had sympathy for the insects, which means I could stand an insect was back and forth for nesting in my window's frame, and we were at peace. Besides that, I acted more calm when various insects appeared in front me again. Maybe it was because I understood more about meaning of life during I created "the life". Destruction never eliminates the fear of hearts, but living creatures always arouse people's hope for life.
Actually, it wasn't our purpose of creating soft-sculpture. At the beginning, I was just curious about how marvellous she could do with these techniques. Hence I kept asking her to explore more possibilities with those threads and tatters. Amazingly, they were turned into each of the fresh young life in her hands. I adored them so much that I couldn't stand they would be a kind of toys. I thought they should go back to their home, which is the nature. I wanted to create a wide and free world for them. Afterwards, we spent more time and energy to create settings for these insects, where had flowers and grasses, sunshine and air, wind and rain, of course, and freedom.
These little handicrafts were original in folk, and they were supposed to be toys for children at the beginning. However, when we created them in a Fine Art way and combined them with the artistic settings, these insects were vital artworks instead of toys which can be played. Not long afterwards, we created diligent ants, elegant mantises, handsome spiders and gorgeous ladybugs.
